So the 250LONDON BMX cavalcade rolled into Merton on Sunday and, from start to finish, it was an awesome day of racing! Merton Saints BMX Club were our hosts and they put on a mighty fine show. The whole club were very welcoming and couldn't have done more to please, from MC Tony Knott keeping everyone informed and entertained throughout the day, to volunteers helping us put up and take down our gazebo (not our forte) and the Finish Line officials shoving riders our way for the Holeshot Awards! From our point of view, as sponsors of the series, it's been great getting to know more of the riders, officials and parents and, with every race, we feel like we're becoming very much part of the London BMX family and even more so after Sunday. :-) Here's the lowdown of the day...
Ok, for starters, here's a few words from Race Director and main man on the day, Nic Preece...
Big thanks to these dudes, without whom...
We must acknowledge Master of Ceremonies, Tony Knott! Sunday marked his 12th year as a BMX MC and that's why he's got it down to a tee, he's a natural on the Mic!
250LONDON HOLESHOT AWARDS!
Let's face it, actually winning a BMX race is a massive challenge! But if you can get to the first corner first, especially if there's the promise of a prize and heaps of adulation if you do, then it's worth pushing yourself off that start gate even faster! Here are 4 riders who rose to the challenge on Sunday and bagsed themselves a 250LONDON goody bag!
THE 250LONDON Golden Ticket!
This is always a jammy prize to win! A rider is chosen at random at each event and this time around Eboni Lennon, of Peckham BMX Club, was the chosen one! She was chuffed to bits and picked an ARCADE Jersey to wear in her final race! Check her out, she looks ace!
TEAM PICS TEAM PICS!!
This was probably one of the brightest ideas we've had so far in the series! We figured the podium was underused so set about rallying riders and teams to gather round it for photos and, well, see for yourself, this gallery is a fine example of Team Spirit!
OFF THE TRACK...
Between us we captured some lovely moments off the track. Here they are, courtesy of Tony Twist, Claire Henderson and Jen.
AND ON THE TRACK!
Finally the real action! There was plenty of excellent racing on Sunday as well as some spectacular spills, caught on camera by Tony Twist and Claire Henderson. Enjoy...
So there you have it, another round done + dusted! Thanks so much to everyone who made it such a great day. Race results are now available to see on the London BMX Website. The next round is at the awesome Hayes Hawks BMX Track on Sunday 12th June and we're planning something very cool for that day so keep your eyes peeled for news on that, plus more Team Pics for the riders and teams who missed out on Sunday! Registration will be open soon, keep an eye on the Facebook event page for it going live!
See you there and, in the meantime, give us a like on Facebook!
(p.s. we're missing a Club Rep Bib, please let Jen know if you have it!!)
